Millionaires Are Cheapskates

Image
Accompanied mum to the nursery to get some pots and soil for her petunias and my japanese roses. Around the nursery was a dumpster and we saw a lot of used tyres. Imagine a dumpster, with rubbish, old sofas, etc... Drove past through and mum kept on saying "Sayang la tayar-tayar tu... Boleh letak pokok bunga... Boleh tanam sayur..." I was a bit reluctant on going to the dumpster... But then I thought, just now all the large pots are not less than RM25... And this one here is absolutely FREE. So, I parked the car by the road and whatever okay whatever people said you just go there. Put on my shades and went to choose tyres with my mum. Because I was influenced by millionaires. I read up on them and yes, they are cheapskates. They bring their own drinks, they don't waste too much on clothes during festive seasons... So there. We get to save a lot ya. GST, right... Maybe I'll post an update on what happens next to these tyres.

Petai Overdose

Image
The first time I really ate petai voluntarily was about two years ago. VOLUNTARILY here means I purposely eat it and willingly add more to my plate and consume it freely and enjoyingly. Petai hutan. I brought back some from my trip to Gerik. I was influenced by this one TRAFFIC officer. He bought a lot from the Orang Asli and gave me some. I was curios. Memang sedap sangat ke? How different is this wild petai from the rest? Well... Petai hutan is definitely the best! LESS SMELL and it just tasted so fresh! The most important thing is it has less smell. And I began to feel joyfull coz hey! I can eat petai! I've always feel a bit Mat Salleh-like coz I don't eat petai I dont eat tempoyak I don't eat belacan I don't eat budu. So I proudly admit that I DO EAT petai. But only the wild ones. Ececeh.... It was a start, though. Because I soon started to eat petai; wild or not. My fiancè bought me petai once; not a wild one. And I happily ate it out of love. On the w...

MYCAT CAT Walk- The Journey to Merapoh

Image
And so, last weekend my best friend, Tita and I decided to go to Merapoh to save the tigers. Merapoh is in Pahang, by the way... In case you're like me; I really thought it's in Kelantan because it's near Gua Musang. Hopefully none of my lecturers are reading this... Such a shame for a tourism student! We joined a volunteering programme held by MYCAT (Malaysian Conservation Alliance for Tigers). MYCAT is an NGO in Malaysia aiming to save tigers from poaching and extinction. They have various programmes but the one we joined was their CAT Walk. CAT is a cool abbreviation for Citizen Action for Tigers in which WE as normal people can actually help save the tigers! They said 'Orang Kelantan ada dimana-mana...' Oh yes. From Kajang to Putrajaya to Putra to Gombak, finally the bus was full. And yeah you guessed it right; kecek Kelate all the way! Tupe bah... Pecoh.. Cabe... Caghi bah dulu... Depe... (Tumpang bas, pecah, cabang/ simpang, cari bas dulu, depan). And Ti...

Time To Wind Down...

Image
Life has been quite hectic these days. I Renang is expanding and living in the same house with your boss, we talked about it most of the time. Arguments included, of course. Ha-ha. Today is a public holiday in Malaysia (Deepavali). But since morning we had a meeting and I'm supposed to have class at 3pm today. At about 2.30pm it started to rain so the class was cancelled for today. It can't be delayed as the student herself got a limited time. A bit disappointed because that means class replacement. But I always try to remind myself that everything comes for a reason. Ada hikmahnya. So I started crocheting. It's also a good time for me to wind down a bit from my hectic schedule. And what I love is I'm able to 'zikir' while doing crochet. It's almost the only time I get to 'zikir' a lot... I already crochet 10 granny squares. I still don't have any specific plan on what I'm going to do with it. Turn it into a blanket, a tablecloth...

Pots In A Cage

Image
They say you can either have plants OR cats. You can never have BOTH. We have 5 cats. Well, two cats and three kittens. Just a few hours ago, after lunch "TIAH.....! TIAH.......!" Apparently the cats, not sure which one have created chaos. All the pots lined up on the rack were all tumbled over.  The use of a cage is to protect and keep something. Well so, in this case, the plants are the ones needing protection. Decided to write this up, who knows anyone might get an idea. Instead of throwing your cat away at any market or restaurant.

Stress Factor

What makes you stressed? Money. People. The environment. What? Well... I received a job offer even before I graduated. And I started my first real job not even one month after I graduated. And, for a fresh graduate, I was offered a basic salary of about RM 3k. Basic salary. I worked there only for 6 months. 2 months into the job, I became stressed. Because of the working hours, because of the environment.... On Sunday morning I would wake up so stressed because I've to go to work the next day. Sunday morning, yes. MORNING. If Sunday night it would still sound okay, right? But Sunday morning... I finally decided to shift to only part time. Coz I decided I wanted to do only what I want to do. Well, I teach swimming in the evening and the rest of the day was simply paperwork and YouTube. Seriously, most of the time I feel like I'm not maximizing my time. Wait. As I wrote that it suddenly hit me. Not maximizing my time. Wasting time. Yes. That was exactly what I compla...

Thousands In A Pod

Image
WAKE UP. People are making money easily. 4 seeds for RM 2. NO JOKE. Seriously, you can get hundreds even thousands of seeds in just one pod. Been doing online transaction for mom for the past few months, seeds arriving in small envelopes right to our doorstep.  RM 24, RM 36, but never more than RM 50.  No more online purchases are made at the moment as she is now learning to plant them herself using the seeds. So I helped her collect the seeds this morning. You can get a lot of seeds just from one stem if you look closely. And in one seed pod, tada! Look at the picture above, and count how many seeds you got there. And to think people sell ONE of those seeds for RM 0.50!  I feel like selling seeds, too. But then I thought. Kesian...  There's no guarantee that the seed will bloom into a flower. If you know how to care for it, then fine. But if the opposite happens. Too bad, right? As for me, I'd rather do business to HELP people. With the in...

Maximizing Resources

Image
Oh yeah.... MAXIMIZE everything. Iced tea in this humongous plastic bag is RM 1.50 only. Successfull entrepreneurs always say they MAXIMIZE RESOURCES. Today, I see it for real. No, not the iced tea. Was searching for a nursery at Taman Perindustrian Bolton just now. The lady advertised on Facebook about her nursery. 'Perindustrian' sounds BIG. I imagined her place in one of the industrial lots, sort of like a factory since she's also selling pots. Guess what. It's not at the factory lot. It's just located at a terrace house, corner lot. Packed with flowers until you can't even tell where is the entrance. And... There's a playground behind her house. And alongside the playground are potted plants which I'm very sure belong to her since all the flowers are all in those black plastic thingy. Now. That is what we call MAXIMIZE. Back home, we really work on our garden. Still got a lot more spaces. Really.. We should really MAXIMIZE. If you have...

The Engagement Ring

Image
After 24 days of getting engaged, I finally get to slip on the ring perfectly. I got them resized about a week or so after the engagement. And after the engagement I only kept it in the box. I must admit we struggled a lot in finding 'the ring'... Along the way we booked and rejected quite a few. So many things to learn.. 999, 916, 375... And the list goes on. You can never get a 916 gold ring with pure diamond. If you want pure diamond, compensate on the gold. If you want gold, then compensate on the diamond. There are Zircon, American Diamond, Ruby... Honestly, I never wanted a one diamond ring (cincin batu satu)... I thought it as old fashioned and awkward with just one diamond stuck in the middle. And at first I thought there isn't any difference between Zircon and pure diamond (my fiancè said so) but I guess a girl is a girl; once showed the pure diamond, I can immediately tell the difference. And so I decided I wanted diamond. I've actually always imagine...

Feeling the burn

Assalamualaikum. Hi. Been quite some time since I blogged... Well... I've graduated with only 0.01 point away from First Class Honours. About 11 months ago. And I'm already engaged with the guy I sometimes blogged about. About 1 month already. Life post-graduation was hectic. I got myself a steady job, high salary with maximum working hours. Which lasts me only six months, just so I could get myself a humble 1.3 Myvi. Ever since I graduated, I'm a self-proclaimed Manager of I Renang, the swimming company founded by my mum. I went to the printing shop myself to get myself a new business card with this so called Pengurus I Renang title on it. I feel awesome. Manager... PENGURUS I RENANG. It's not even a year yet and I'm feeling the burn.... The burn of a Manager spirit fighting to keep the business up. You see before this it was my part-time job... Not really a Manager, more like a swimming instructor only.. But now it's full time. And not only that, I...
