Flying in a pool of water...

Image
Lifeguarding can be a very boring job. Especially when you love water A LOT and all you can do is just watch people swimming. Basically, you are paid to watch. So today, as usual I brought along my notes to study by the poolside. Sambil kerja, sambil belajar. Well, because according to my past observations, the number of people swimming during this session never exceeds FIVE . So, it's really a bit relaxing, this session. All you've got to do is sit on this high chair and observe. But today things were a bit different. An athlete came swimming to this humble pool today. OH. I want that chest. A swimmers' chest. It's broad, tough, and triangular. Like Superman. I saw Raja at the pool today. No, not 'raja' as in king, but Raja Azlina Izzah , the swimmer. The national swimmer. I recognized her from the swimming suit. The same swimming suit she wore during the interfaculty swimming competition. Basically because there's MALAYSIA written on it. So she swims...

Running Away from the Gold Medal

'We have a moral obligation to prevent the exploitation of high school students... When the game ends and the glory fades, the educated students will be the ultimate winners.' - Marina Chin , Principal of Bukit Jalil Sports School and former sportswoman. I went to this seminar 'SUKAN UNTUK SEMUA' last Thursday and Marina Chin was one of the speakers. Okay, honestly, I was actually forced to go to this talk. So I didn't really plan on focusing on the talk at all. But because I was sitting at the FRONT row, I had to focus. Or at least pretend to focus. Heh. But for this talk... 100% focus okay! Er, well... Maybe 99%... Distractions, distractions! Marina Chin was a famous sportswoman during the early 70s , in sprinting and hurdling basically. She was Malaysia 's fastest woman sprinter that time and now, she 's the principal of the famous sports school in Malaysia, Bukit Jalil Sports School. She gave a talk on the effect of sport...

I'm No Kelantanese

but I'm starting to love Dikir Barat! I believe most Kelantanese love Dikir Barat... It is, afterall, their culture. Dikir Barat in my understanding is a type of traditional musical form which is performed in groups where they will sit crossed-legged on a platform. It is most popular in Kelantan. The melody and rhythm is usually the same (I think) for every song. Do correct me if I'm wrong, but so far that's what I notice. Do visit this blog for more information, okay. Kumpulan Dikir Barat Titih Pusaka UiTM Shah Alam. (Free promotion. Yes, I know you guys appreciate this but, NO, I DO NOT wish to have a song dedicated to me. Thank you very much. Heh.) I could hear them from my room now. I'm not sure where they are but it IS loud enough for me to hear them clearly from my room on the 8th floor . But I wonder if they are using microphones... Though I couldn't really understand the Kelantan dialect but I still enjoyed listening. It's actu...

The Girl with the Pink Umbrella

Image
Again. I was touched by a random act of kindness. No, it wasn't another TV show . Heh. I was trapped in the rain today. I waited for the rain to stop pouring but it didn't. It even got heavier. I didn't want to say it was raining cats and dogs as I was a bit bored of using this idiom already... But you see, I didn't have a very wide vocabulary, heheh... So... Yes, it was raining cats and dogs. And there was also lightning. And I'm very sure everyone is aware of the fact that water , combined with lightning equals to DANGER . Yup, that's why we lifeguards would chase you guys out of the swimming pool when there's lightning. ( Hujan tak apa, bila ada guruh jangan.) So I waited outside the ATM room because it was too cold inside... (Honestly, ATM room sounded a bit weird but, oh well... ) Then this girl with a pink umbrella came. No, she didn't came to pick me up. I didn't even know her, but she smiled at me. Yes, yes, yes, I was very sure she smil...

Mentality

Mentality is a particular attitude or way of thinking, especially one that you think is wrong or stupid. (Oh oh... While searching for the word mentality in my Longman Dictionary of Contemporary English, I found this word "siege mentality" . Check out the meaning! So cool... Seriously. Well, I think so... Heh.) I went out shopping for groceries just now... And such a disappointment! Such shame... Remember my post on lost items in the supermarket ? Okay... Not to repeat the same thing, but you see... This time things are worst. There are loads more misplaced items compared to other places. Alaa... It's not even misplaced. People purposely place the items there. You see, this time in ECONSAVE I found a plastic of fishes between boxes of cereals . And Twisties between tins of sardines... A packet of sugar on a toothpaste rack... The list goes on and on and on. Judging from the type of cars at the parking lot, I could say these people who came shopping here were not from...

Touched.

Happy, happy innocent kids... I just HAVE to write about this random act of kindness! Okay, okay... So what is it that made me really touched that it actually moved me off the couch and rushed me to my laptop? (When I was already halfway to dreamland~) A TV SHOW. Yes, a TV SHOW . I just watched the tv show Bang Bang Boom on TV3 and there was this one segment called “Terima Kasih”. Terima Kasih means Thank You, in English. Okay, honestly I’m not really a fan of Bang Bang Boom but somehow... Mum's watching, so I joined in- lah . Now, back to the random act of kindness ya. The story’s like this; One man (Bang Bang Boom’s crew) went around asking for people to buy him a RM 12.90 worth of fabric (In which he planned to make a new baju raya for his daughter) in exchange for the bubur lambuk (A type of porridge) that he’s selling. There were only about 2 or 3 packs of bubur lambuk in his basket so you see the porridges were totally not worth that amount. It wasn’t even close to ...

A Hairy Raya

Image
The idea of this entry came after watching all those Hari Raya greetings from those Malaysian people living overseas. Alaa.. Those greetings on television... Not those greetings in newspapers. Okay, got it? Let's start. But before that, I'd like to wish all of you; "Sellamet Hairy Rayya" (You have to pronounce it just like the spelling above, okay.) Well... I noticed that most of them (I said, most. Not ALL. ) have this British accent, okay, whatever, British or American, whatever. The point is, they have this some sort of accent or slang . The result of staying too long overseas... Well, I think so. Erm... And some of my friends think so too... Okay, okay, okay... The thing is, I was born in the USA. Oookay, no big deal. No big deal. But eh, you have to know this fact before continuing reading. Because, this post is related to it. Heh. So you see, I'm not boasting about my birthplace. It's just that, you know, because it's related to the story I'm abo...

11.30 am

I woke up late today. Mum said no young lady should wake up late. SLEEP DEBT. I put it in that way and I didn't feel like a bad young lady anymore. Yes, such thing as a sleep debt does exist. I'm not making it up. Go Google it up, okay. I've been sleeping not more than 6 hours a day for the past two months that I believe I deserved this . Okay, let's not count the afternoon naps . A nap, and a sleep, are two different things. I repeat, I deserve to wake up as late as 11.30 am today. Thank you.
